While we appreciate all donations, we do ask that if you are considering giving to the food pantry or organizing a fundraiser on our behalf you consider giving monetarily. Any food product that is donated must be inspected by our trained volunteers to make sure it is not expired and meets the food labeling requirements.
Did you know that a $1 donation can purchase 5 pounds of food*? For these reasons, we do encourage monetary giving over product donation, when possible, so we can maximize efficiencies with volunteer staff and the purchasing power of your donation.
*When food is purchased from our regional supplier, The Food Bank of the Golden Crescent.
Volunteering for the food pantry presents a fulfilling opportunity for community members to actively contribute to a noble cause. The First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, located at 419 Washington Street, serves as the focal point for these volunteer activities.
The pantry extends an open invitation to individuals interested in helping with bag filling, to gather at 8 am on the third Thursday of each month. This involvement plays a crucial role in preparing bags for distribution.
For those who wish to engage in the distribution process, volunteers are encouraged to join at 8 am on the third Friday of the month, contributing to the seamless and efficient distribution of essential items.
The heartbeat of our food pantry is sustained by the unwavering commitment of some core volunteers, who dedicate their time and energy month after month to ensure the pantry operates smoothly. These individuals play pivotal roles in various aspects of our operations, from bag filling to distribution, embodying the spirit of community service.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these exceptional individuals:

In addition to the volunteers from the public, the food pantry operates within a church rotation facilitated by the Ministerial Alliance, showcasing a collaborative effort among various churches in the community. The collective dedication of public volunteers and the church rotation underscores a unified commitment to alleviating hunger and meeting the needs of the community.
